چکیده

This paper describes a CMOS optical preamplifier suitable for infrared wireless data communications. The preamplifier consists of a differential CMOS variable-gain transimpedance amplifier embedded in a larger feedback loop used to reject photocurrents generated by ambient light. Fabricated in a commercial 0.35m CMOS process, the preamplifier consumes 8 mW at 3 V, and provides 70-MHz bandwidth over a 77-dB dynamic range with a maximum transimpedance gain of 19 k . The bandwidth is controlled within a factor of two over a 31-dB variation in gain.

A 3 - V Cmos Optical Preamplifier with Dc Photocurrent Rejection

This paper describes a CMOS optical preamplifier suitable for free-space, infrared wireless communications. The design is differential for improved power supply noise rejection, and an active cancellation scheme is used for eliminating dc photocurrents that are generated by ambient light. Making use of a 0.35-µm CMOS process, the preamplifier provides a transimpedance gain of 20 kΩ over a bandw...

Indoor Non-directed Optical Wireless Communications - Optimization of the Lambertian Order

For an indoor non-directed line of sight optical wireless communication (NLOS-OWC) system we investigate the optimized Lambertian order (OLO) of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). We firstly derive an expression for the OLO from a conventional Lambertian LED model. Then, we analyze the indoor multi-cell NLOS-OWC channel characteristics including the optical power distribution and the multipath time ...

CMOS Optical Preamplifier Design Using Graphical Circuit Analysis

New requirements on optical receivers are being driven by the rapid expansion of optical communications beyond traditional fiber-optic links. This thesis discusses the design of transimpedance amplifiers that are used in the preamplifier stage of optical receivers. The three specific requirements that are addressed here are a wide dynamic range, ambient light rejection, and low-voltage operatio...

14.4 A 1V 1mW CMOS Front-End with On-chip DynamicGate Biasing for a 75Mb/s Optical Receiver

Optical communications is rapidly expanding beyond long-haul fiber-optic networks into shorter distance, lower-cost applications such as infrared wireless links and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH). CMOS implementations of optical receivers are attractive given their reduced cost and size, but the trend towards lower system voltages in CMOS challenges the long-term viability of integrated designs. Trad...

A 3 Gb/s optical detector standard 0.18um CMOS

This paper presents a monolithic optical detector, consisting of an integrated photodiode and a pre-amplifier in a standard 0.18μm CMOS technology. 3Gb/s data-rate was achieved at λ=850nm with an average optical power of 25 μW and BER10. This data-rate is over half an order of magnitude higher than that of current state-of-the-art optical detectors in standard CMOS. High speed operation is achi...
